THANK YOU TO ALL THE CHILDREN WHO AUDITIONED.
We wish that we had a place for each of you in our show.  But, this is not that kind of show this year.
Sorry.  Maybe next year.
Each of you had a successful audition for us.
You handled your nerves well and sang your song wonderfully.
We had the hard time choosing the very best.
We hope you will still come and see the show so that you can continue to learn all you can about musical theater.

INFORMATION FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE INTERESTED

IN AUDITIONING FOR LES MISERABLES

The Children Audition

Tuesday - September 22     4:30 pm in room E-105, near the auditorium at Western HS.

Each child attending the auditions should plan on preparing the following.  We will have both song sheets and word sheets available, but the children must know that the better prepared they are, the better will be their chances to get a role in our upcoming musical production.  Please understand that just because you were in a previous WLW production, it doesn't automatically mean that you will be cast in this show.  Best to each of you.
Hope this helps.

Again, check back at wlwmusical.com  often.

The WLW Show Staff

The auditions will take place on September 22 at 4:30 pm.  Please arrive early with a parent who will need to fill out some paperwork before the audition.  Wear comfortable clothes and be the most prepared that you can be.  (Costumes are not needed for your audition.)

Every child needs to be prepared to sing the song that fits their gender.  Some will sing in small groups of 2 or 3.  Some may be asked to sing part of the song by themselves.

PARENTS:  please plan on arriving at least 20 minutes early as you will need to fill out the application form before your child auditions.  Please understand that there will be no parents allowed in the audition room, E-105.  (We have found that in the past, kids perform differently when their parents are watching...).  The entire audition procedure will last about 90 minutes.

The Les Miserables Children's Cast List will be posted on this page on Friday evening, Septmber 25th.

We will be looking to cast a total of 8 - 12 children in this production.  Please understand that this is a very different show from the last few productions.  Most of the children will not be asked to be at the rehearsals till later on in October.  As in the past, we will work with you around your school schedule, up until the week or two before the show.  Please refer to the rehearsal calendar on this site.

Break a leg.  We are excited that you want to possibly come and join the magic as we present LES MISERABLES!!

1.  Audition Song

GIRLS - CASTLE ON THE CLOUDS

YouTube Video

We will provide a piano player to help them in their audition.  They should 'know' the song before they arrive.  Memorized is best.  It will be in the same key as the Broadway cast album.  Here are two Youtube clips to help you out.

There is a castle on a cloud,
I like to go there in my sleep,
Aren't any floors for me to sweep,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

There is a room that's full of toys,
There are a hundred boys and girls,
Nobody shouts or talks too loud,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

There is a lady all in white,
Holds me and sings a lullaby,
She's nice to see and she's soft to touch,
She says "Cosette, I love you very much."

BOYS - LITTLE PEOPLE

The actual boy solo starts at :50 seconds on the counter.

(Yell) Liar!
(Sing) Good evening, dear inspector,
Lovely evening, my dear.
I know this man, my friends, his name's Inspector Javert!
So don't believe a word he says cuz none of it's true!
This only goes to show what lil' people can do!
and lil' people know
when lil' people fight
we may look easy pickings but we've got some bite!
so never kick a dog, because hes just a pup
we'll fight like 20 armies and we won't give up
so ya better run for cover when the pup grows up!

2.  Acting

98% of this show is singing and acting.  Very little talking.
So this year, instead of learning some lines from a script, we are going to ask you to do some acting / pantomime to some music.
Make sure that you are comfortable with this.

Most of the children are very poor.  Street kids.  Some are even orphans.  Some are sad.  Some are street smart.  All need to act like they don't recieve much love, caring as well as food and shelter.

We will play some background music and then ask you to do the acting.  Sometimes it will be with some other children.  Sometimes it will be all by yourself.
We will make this time as friendly as possible.  The high school students find this part fun.  So should you.  Just find the inner child that still likes to pretend, and you'll be great.
Best to you as you prepare.
